A two-level duplex project located in Vila Nova de Gaia, a suburban area of Porto, overlooking the Douro River. The project is designed for a couple with two children. The main wish of the customers was to create an exquisite and exclusive interior that meets modern trends. At the exhibition in Milan, the owner acquired a pair of cabinets for the living room, which became the starting point for the entire design project. Furniture and decorative accessories refer to Hollywood "Golden Age" and Art Deco. Extravagant furniture, a dining table, chandeliers, floor lamps, shop windows have soft feminine shapes and are trimmed with gilded metal.
Location:Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto, Portugal
Type:Residential
Area:160 sq.m
The color palette is built on shades of beige, blue, lavender and soft coral colors. There were noble velvet and silk fabrics used, the walls were plastered for painting, natural wood parquet, marble was used for decoration in the bathrooms. To give the Portuguese national flavor to the new house, by request of the customer, Azulejo tiles with historical ornament of the XVlll century were selected with deep blue color which goes well with all the details of the interior and gives completeness to it.
The first floor includes a living room combined with a kitchen and dining room. The space is organized in such a way that the kitchen is hidden from view, it is hidden in a side niche, and storage cabinets are only in the lower level and do not attract attention. Thus, the living room and dining area remain elegant and smart.
At the entrance there is a dressing room in the shape of a trapezoid, on the outside it is finished with solid mirror panels. For the “irregular” shape and shiny surface, this dressing room in the project was called “Iceberg”. It separates the hall from the bedroom of the eldest son and visually enlarges a small space.
The place for washing and drying machines is hidden in the built-in niche; this arrangement makes access easy and saves space. The staircase connecting the first and second floors has a modern minimalistic design, it looks lightweight and gives dynamism to the area. On the second floor there is a parents’ bedroom with a spacious bathroom and a separate dressing room. The green terrace on the second floor is separated from the bathroom by a large display window, an oval bath is located next to the window, which allows to turn the bathing into a pleasant ritual. The bedroom for the newborn daughter has a separate bathroom.
Furniture and lighting fixtures for all rooms are selected in the same style, the color scheme also matches the general mood, but the teenager’s room uses more intense and expressive blue indigo and anthracite. The layout of the rooms provides for the maximum use of the usable area, walk-through areas are minimized, there are no corridors, pleasant perspectives are built.
The style is elegant and refined, feminine and exclusive, in line with modern trends.
